The other day two of my children were begging for a job around the house to make extra money. Normally I don’t mind finding jobs that need to be done, however I reminded these two they had non-paying chores that they had neglected. Why would I give them a job that earns money when they were not faithful with their own chores?
The next day I remembered what my children had asked, and I began to think about my own life. Many times the task at hand for the day isn’t very exciting. Cooking, cleaning, teaching little ones, cleaning (again), and cooking (again) never make people’s ” bucket list.” I can often daydream of things that seem more adventurous and fun, yet those aren’t what the Lord has equipped me to do for today. While other things may sound exciting, like spending the day with my husband or having half the day to myself to write and create, those times are few and far between. My contentment with whom God designed me to be is greater when I learn to live just one day at a time. When I look at what He asks me to do for today and seek to do it with His joy, I find true fullfillment. When I realize that He does not waste my days and each day is important, I can accept the mundane tasks. Not only can I accept what today holds, but I also realize that He desires to walk and talk with me each day if I choose to invite Him.
Where has God placed you? Maybe you have a class full of rambunctious 7 year olds that God has called you to teach? Perhaps you have the responsibility of caring for an aging parent. Wherever He has placed you, He has equipped you and wants you to thrive.
Whether you are a stay at home mom, a working mom, or a retired grandparent, remember that you are created for a purpose. Be encouraged that whatever you do, even if it seems mundane, can have eternal purpose when you see each day the way God sees it.
