This morning I was reflecting on the day that was ahead of me. I prayed “Dear Lord, I give you today, help me to hear your voice, go where you want me to go, and do what you want me to do.” I thought about the verse from Matthew 11:30 which says, “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” One yoke requires me to come up with a plan and work hard. I then worry about the results, fret over the details, and am disappointed when things don’t go as I have planned. His yoke requires a different type of work. Under His yoke He is the authority, not me. I must listen and obey Him. I go where He wants me to go with the promise that He will never leave me. I do what He wants me to do with the promise that He will equip me with the needed tools. When I am disappointed that things don’t go the way I wanted, I can rest assured that He is working all things out for my good.
His yoke is the easier of the two, yet it requires one of the hardest things – faith. However, the more I begin to walk under His yolk, the greater my faith grows. I begin to trust Him. I remember the days of trying and working hard under the old yolk. I now see the foolishness of working to build a kingdom that is only for self. His yoke asks me to follow one day at a time, but brings freedom and joy. Now that I have tried them both, I would never go back to the old yoke. As Psalms 34:8 says “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!”
